The Defence of Britain Database was compiled by nearly 600 volunteer recorders making a total of some 17,000 field visits to sites throughout England, Wales, Scotland, and Northern Ireland. Other information on sites now destroyed was gathered from published works and primary archival sources, as well as through oral testimony. The  Database contains records of a total of 19,555 sites.
