Earthworks are amongst the rarest invasion defence survivors and are probably the most difficult to identify. Most fixed concrete defences would have had further earthwork defences around them such as trenches and anti-tank ditches.

Now often no more than slight depressions, they are best spotted in the late evening light when the shadows accentuate such features.
