The memorial commemorates more than 7,000 servicemen of the United Kingdom and South Africa who died in the Battle of Cambrai in November and December 1917 and whose graves are not known. This represents approx 40% of those who lost their lives.
The Memorial was designed by H Charlton Bradshaw with sculpture by C S Jagger. The memorial stands on a terrace at one end of Louverval Military Cemetery.
Below the Memorial Louverval Military Cemetery contains 124 burials, 118 British, 4 Australians and 2 New Zealanders.
